Data from LMIC on the global burden of chronic NCD are predominantly derived from studies with small sample sizes and differing methodologies. In Africa, large-scale, population-level data on NCDs are few; and evidence from adequately powered ‘big’ data platforms are urgently needed to understand better the burden, distribution and determinants of NCD and the intersection with HIV and other important communicable disease in this setting. The longer term vision for this research is creating a dynamic and sustainable platform of discoverable longitudinal-data focused on NCD and their risk factors, provides a unique large-scale data source for understanding NCD in Africa now and in future decades, to inform and shape effective policy in population with limited resources and large burden of disease. The study aims to create the partnership across multiple demographic sites in Africa to harmonise data on NCD for collaborative analyses; to produce multi-site and site-specific analyses on incidence of fatal HIV-related cancers as well as to produce multi-site and site-specific analyses on prevalence of adult disabilities and proportion attribute to HIV. This partnership will draw the on the successful ALPHA- network model; developing the capacity to join up data through partnership, expertise and model data specification. Multiple demographic surveillance sites already collect data on cardio-metabolic and cancer risk factors, HIV, anthropometry and verbal autopsy
